RTA Field Trip to Tennessee/Kentucky Area Filling Fast

With only a handful of spots remaining for this year’s Railway Tie Association Member Field Trip, now is the time to finalize your registration for a first-hand educational look at the wood tie journey – from tree to track.
Members will be welcomed on Monday, June 8 in Union City, Tenn., for a 5 p.m. RTA Safety & Materials Processing meeting at the Hampton Inn. Open to all members, this meeting will be followed at 6 p.m., by a reception featuring beverages and light fare. Members are encouraged to make dinner plans with colleagues following the reception.
On Tuesday, June 9, our busy day will begin at 7 a.m., with a complimentary breakfast at the Hampton Inn. The bus will depart for our first sawmill tour promptly at 8 a.m.
After departing sawmill #1, the group will head to the Lodge at Paris Landing State Park for lunch and a program by the Tennessee Forestry Association. Members may also tour the on-site nature center. Following the luncheon presentation and tour of the nature center, the group will head to sawmill #2. Our return to the Hampton Inn will be followed by an evening reception.
On Wednesday, June 10, the day will begin a bit earlier, with breakfast at the Hampton starting at 6 a.m., followed by a departure for Guthrie, Ky., to tour the Koppers Inc. plant and enjoy lunch.
After lunch, the group will head toward Mayfield, Ky., where we will tour Progress Rail Services’ locomotive repair facility. Upon returning to Union City, the group will enjoy a closing reception and friendly game of bowling at Southlane Bowling, courtesy of sponsor Wheeler Lumber.
The RTA room block at the Hampton Inn Union City has been extended to Wednesday, June 3.
